Understanding Parlays: Risk vs. Reward
Published on Oct 05, 2025
Parlays offer massive payouts for small stakes, but are they worth the risk? We break down the math behind multi-leg bets.
A parlay is a single wager that links together two or more individual bets. To win a parlay, every single "leg" (or individual bet) must win. If even one leg loses, the entire parlay is graded as a loss.
The appeal of parlays is the massive potential payout. Because the odds of each leg are multiplied together, a $10 bet can quickly turn into a $1,000 payout. However, the house edge on parlays is significantly higher than on straight bets. Sharp bettors generally avoid large parlays, preferring to stick to straight bets or 2-team parlays where they have a distinct mathematical edge.
